'Don't try that with me!': Selena Gomez hits back after being asked about best pal Taylor Swift's alleged expletive 'Shut them the f*** up' VMAs rant
|
Taylor Swift shocked fans when she appeared to utter an expletive aimed at ex-boyfriend Harry Styles at the MTV VMAs on Sunday.
Taking to the stage with his fellow One Direction bandmates to present the Best Pop Video category, the 19-year-old Brit was apparently on the receiving end of Taylor's sharp tongue.
Sitting pretty in the front row next to best friend Selena Gomez - who incidentally won the award - the 23-year-old was seen mouthing what appeared to be a rather rude response to her ex's presence

'Shut them the f*** up': Taylor Swift appeared to have whispered an expletive rant to best pal Selena Gomez as ex Harry Styles took to the stage at the MTV VMAs on Sunday
Her lips are sealed: Selena Gomez responded with a firm, 'Don't try that with me,' when she was asked about the incident at the Los Angeles premiere of her new movie, Getaway, on Monday
The clip of the pretty blonde whispering 'Shut them the f*** up' has gone viral, with fans making hilarious memes left, right and centre.
While the outburst seems uncharacteristic for the usually composed beauty, let's not forget that this is a young woman who has made a career - not to mention a fortune - out of channelling her heartbreak into hit songs.
So did she really utter the F word or is it simply a misunderstanding?
'He knows exactly who he is': The star thanked her ex for inspiring song I Knew You Were Trouble as she picked up the moonman for Best Female Video for the angst-ridden song
One thing's for sure: don't ask Selena Gomez.
Justin Bieber's ex reprimanded a reporter on the red carpet at the premiere of her new film, Getaway, on Monday who dared to ask for clarification on the incident.
'Don't try that with me,' the 21-year-old sharply told him.
The star later explained that she's protective when it comes to her friends.
Sweet and innocent: The gorgeous starlets posed up a storm for the cameras looking like butter wouldn't melt before Taylor's alleged rant
Showing Harry what he's missing: The leggy beauty was on her A game in a sexy slinky navy blue gown to attend the awards ceremony
'I think girls need to be more supportive of each other. I definitely agree with that. I'm all about that,' she said. 'Taylor has been one of those girls. We have been friends for five years. She is very strong. She doesn't care what people think and she inspires me.'
The stunning brunette, who took home the Best Pop Video award on the night for Come & Get It, said she didn't expect to win.
'So I am watching the beautiful boys, One Direction, who are not bad to look at, then they said my name. I looked at Taylor ... it was surreal. Because I do put so much work into my music. There's so much talk of everything. But I did put my heart and soul into it so I was really excited. It was great.'
My eyes are up here! Harry Styles was caught checking out his ex's derriere as she walked past him, while an oblivious Rihanna chilled out in front of him with her box of popcorn
Of course, Taylor didn't only lash out at her ex once, but again during her acceptance speech for Best Female Video for I Knew You Were Trouble.
The song is reported to have been written about the couple's first ill-fated attempt at a relationship in early 2012, before they hooked back up over Christmas and parted ways shortly after the New Year.
After thanking her fans, the singer added, 'I also want to thank the person who inspired this song because he knows exactly who he is - because now I've got one of these.'
Talk about awkward! The One Direction boys looked mighty uncomfortable as Taylor's BFF, Selena, accepted her award for Best Pop Video, giving each of the bandmates - including Harry - a kiss as she took to the stage
The camera then panned to Harry sitting awkwardly in the audience, chewing gum and clearly unsure where to look, as his bandmates had a giggle at his expense.
Meanwhile, addressing Taylor's dig during the New York premiere of the British boy band's film, This Is Us, Liam Payne told reporters he felt Taylor's actions were 'lame'.
'I just thought it was a bit not needed. I mean, you just won an award, it's like, concentrate on yourself!'
